The Herczeg Institute held its annual scholarship award ceremony on June 10, 2018. This year, three scholarships were awarded by Prof. Dov Shmotkin, Head of Herczeg Institute, to excelling doctoral students at Tel Aviv University, who conducted research on an aging-related topics.

The event started with a keynote lecture by Dr. Irit Bluvstein (The Herczeg Institute on Aging and the Department of Nursing), entitled: Beyond successful aging: Contemplation and subversion following the second wave of positive psychology.

Next, each awardee delivered a brief lecture about his or her study:

Mr. Tamir Eisenstein (Department of Physiology, Sackler School of Medicine, and Sagol Brain Institute at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center): Physical activity and the neurocognitive state of the aging human brain: Insights into neurobiological and behavioral correlates. Ms. Shoshik Amram (Department of Neurobiology, the Faculty of Life Science): The role of astrocyte senescence in the pathology of Alzheimer's disease. Mor Bordeynik-Cohen (Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry, Sackler School of Medicine): The genetic basis of hearing loss in the elderly.

The concluding part of the conference was a panel of experts, who discussed the unifying and separating aspects of research on aging and old age. The participants included Professor Dov Shmotkin (School of Psychological Sciences, and Head of Herczeg Institute), Professor Hava Golander (Department of Nursing, and the Herczeg Institute), as well as the three awardees' supervisors: Professor Karen Avraham (Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry, Sackler School of Medicine), Professor Dan Frankel (Department of Neurobiology, Faculty of Life Science), and Dr. Yulia Lerner (Sackler School of Medicine, and Sagol Brain Institute at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center)
